It is always a pleasure to hear from our friend in Greece who has a penchant for the Balearic Beat. Here is DJ Nova’s latest mix in the series of “if I was a Balearic DJ”.

When I heard all of the following I had no idea what was Balearic and what was going on at WhiteIsland. Apart from the huge hits that used to heard on pirate radios and Radios from neighboring countries, since I live near the northern border of my country, always fascinates me the most percussive, jazzy, latin and Afro tracks, but without understand why, perhaps subconsciously and was a forerunner to love and jazz and peripheral of styles of music but also the Balearic scene.

So at ‘’If I Was A Balearic Dj from Milan’’ imaginery mix of the ‘If I Was A Balearic Dj I’d Be Playin’ Tunes Like These’’ of mine would play in the Adriatic Ibiza resorts, beaches and clubs tracks like these which are still played and listened by me, tracks that sounds so fresh to me because of the strong scene of nu disco and Balearic disco. Both, old and new, so easily can be selected and mixed now and I was expecting years for this. First love can be forgotten…

Last month in the Sussex Countryside, a Deepsystems warehouse party took place with Brighton based Leftfield night “Kinfolk”. Deepsystems took over one area of the warehouse with tech and deep vibes, while in the other area Kinfolk’s heady mix of Psychedelic Balearic, Leftfield and acid house grooves was the dancefloor soundtrack for the heads. I have to say that has so far been party of the year, from the moment arriving at the warehouse to leaving at  6:30am the vibe was excellent, a proper up for it crowd who wanted to party.

This month Kinfolk bring their vibes to their Bi-Monthly basement party in Brighton on the 6th April celebrating their 1st Birthday, taking over the basement of The Globe in Middle Street. For more info on Kinfolk join their Facebook Group

Not sure how I did not spot this sooner, the always excellent Eskimo Twins have done an excellent remix of Peaking Lights “Beautiful Son” that features on their simply brilliant Lucifer LP. Peaking Lights came on my radar last year after the reliable One Stop Records in Brighton recommended them to me. More recently the Dub version of their album was released with some incredibly blissed out versions of the album tracks. The Eskimo Twins however grind things up and add some growl to this track ready for the dancefloor.

Here is a small selection of tracks mainly from the 70′s that has been put together for a friend. Sometimes we can have preconception of music without hearing it, we judge a book by it’s cover, and can miss out on some rich artistic wisdom. Krautrock is very much one of the roots of electronic music, the experimental synthesis that lead to renowned artist such as Kraftwerk and evolved into many other musical offerings such as New Age, Ambient music and Techno music. If you want to dig a little deeper, look up artist such as The Cosmic Jokers, Neu!, Can, Tangerine Dream, Ash Ra Temple. All tracks in the selection are from German bands/artists with the exception of one track from UK space rockers Hawkwind.
