The Acid House website started in 1999 when I first got a computer and got online. The aim of the site was to bring people closer to music they listened to when the UK rave scene gained popularity between 1988 and 1993 . As I am not a web designer the site remained dormant for the last couple of years, until May 2007 when I decided to add this blog to the site to make updates easier and add an interactive element where visitors can leave comments. The domain name still remains www.theacidhouse.com and content is still available on the main pages, including mixes that you may not find on the blog. However I would encourage all users to use the interactive comments box on each post to leave feedback or ask questions. The net is full of leechers today who just grab grab grab, with little respect. Although I accept this as the norm, it is always great to hear from someone who has been touched by this site or found it interesting or useful in some sort of way.
Due to the name of the site, some people think it is purely related to ‘acid house’ music, however the music policy is more varied and most genres of dance music from 1988-1993 including Acid, New Beat, Hardcore, Techno, Deep House, Progressive House, Balearic and some early music from the 70’s and 80’s that can be traced as the roots of the UK dance scene. Since 1997 there has been a ton of commercial old skool rave mixes available to buy online and in shops, these are generally crammed packed with the Anthems from back in the day. As these mixes are so easily available, my philosophy has always been to get users in touch with tunes that are either rare, obscure, underground and deeper, but still keeping the roots Old Skool and not elitist.
I would be pleased to hear from any DJ’s or users who have mixes they would like on the site, or have some content they would like to share. Please feel free to email me tim@theacidhouse.com
If you are a producer or music artist, and would like to send your preferably ‘old skool influenced’ music in for promotional review then please email tim@theacidhouse.com
I hope you enjoy The Acid House Experience….

Mate fair play!! I’m sat here with my two kids 10 & 6 yrs old. Their like what they hell music is that!! hahaha, feeling really old. I’m 33 and remember back in 88-89 first getting into the Acid then rave scene, and I was hooked right up until now, where its more D&B. Finding this site has totally brought back what it meant for me (music)and has brought back memories which i thought were long gone!!! Gonna dig out my tapes!!…any advice on how I can download these onto my computer???
NICE ONE……….
Hi Marc
Thanks for your feedback…..I am pleased the site has re-united you with those special memories.
For ‘ripping’ tapes to MP3, all you need is obviously a cassette deck, stereo 3.5mm jack to phono cable and some suitable software that can record audio.
On your sound card you will have a line level input, connect the 3.5mm jack into the line level input and phono into the tape deck, open up audio recording / editing software hit record….
I googled this earlier and found this link…gives a more detailed explaination.

Hope that helps..
All the best

I cant believe that Bridewell Taxis track! Had it on a tape from the radio way back then and never knew who it was! Totally captures the underrground feel from back in the 1990s. Awesome twisty synth-lines and reverbed madness! Nice 1 4 this!
=Loop= \o/
Just grabbed Living on video- this was the first proper electronic tune i heard at a wank rollerdisco when i was nine. Changed my fekkin life
Many thanks for the memory boost
I just want to say thanks for bringing back some very fond memories from the early dayz.some quality mixes that i thought i would never hear again.
Marc – this is a fantastic site, you have some killer material on here that so accurately represents the music from the acid house era. How about gettign a link up for Marshall Jefferson/ Truth – Open Our Eyes. What a fantastic track that was !
Dave
ps. Will try and get you as much as i can. The dayz should never be forgotten
)
As much music as i can !! lol !!
I remember back in the day 1986 and on to 89, when i did piarate radio in manchester, then the acid and the raves into the 90′s.
i had and lost so much good music, stuff i imagine in my mind, but will probally never hear again – sadness of what was once found and now lost.
i think i will do a memory lane mix,in a month or two, after a little more acumaaltion of tracks from here and their, and take Old skool into the future with a few ableton live dj mixes.
So thanks for a little reminder and bringing that tear to my mind.
dont you ever stop this site you here !
Absolutely awesome! I accidently stubbled upon this site and immediately bookmarked. Your offering such a wide cross section of music from back in the day, not just the usual cheesy (and crap) tracks you find on VA Rave compilations. I sold about 4000 old vinyls a few years ago (I know I’m an idiot, but I was moving to SE Asia…forever, what could I do?). I’m feeling some joy again finding the odd one or two on this site as mp3. Is there a requests section? I recently heard Grant Nelson’s – Spellbound, and I’m now desperate to hear the original anthem, Bas Noir- My love is magic…..piano heaven! Thanks for the great work.
Excellent mate – few and far between are sites like this, that capture not only the real tunes but some of the vibe of the time, well done…
RAVE on!
C J A = N W O
Your a legend . The partys you done were some of the best ever and this site the bollocks keep up the good work . RESPECT
Hey Tim
Still loving the website! I have downloaded a great many mixes here…and the jerome 87-91 acidbleepsbreaks is incredible. Another personal fave is your ‘visions of 91 pt1′….please upload (or re-up?) part 2 and any other mixes you’ve done…please. The mixing in ‘visions’ is soild, well timed, well pitched. Some entries from other djs have been fine…but sketchy mixing, with nasty doubled up chorus’/breakdowns that simply don’t match and compliment each other. Not to make your head too big now..but yours (onthewhole..haha) blend so well, and you choose the tracks I would play also…so you must be good! More please! And thanks mate.
Cheers for comments Dave …..I never did get around to doing pt2 of Visions of 1991, it is on my list for 2009 when I get my records back out of storage. If you have not found it already try the Hazy Days Mix http://theacidhouse.wordpress.com/2007/05/07/hazy-dayz/
also..this is another I done..a bit more hardcore ..mixing could have been better, but then again I was mixing with one arm as I had the other in a plaster cast.

I have some other mixes I had done a few years back, so I’ll get those uploaded soon, one called Visions of House 1990-1991, which is a personal fav.
All the best
Tim
Awesome! Thanks for the links….I’m downloading now!
Ive been checking out the site for a while now. Im 38 years old, was 18 in 88, and still see myself as a bit of a, cough, raver. Im from Dublin but was lucky enough to catch loads of the stuff going on in the UK back then. Your site brings back some great memories. Ive downloaded loads of mixes and tunes. Theres one track from about 90/91 I cant find anywhere. I think its called Real Good Friend. Just wondering if you know it. If you do try and stick it up as Id love to hear it again. That TNT track on the acid mix made me weep tears of joy.
Keeep it up. Yer playing a stormer!
Pete.
Hi Peter
That tune is most likely Paris Red – Real Good Friend http://www.discogs.com/Paris-Red-Good-Friend/release/220902

Thats the one!!!! Been driving me bleeding crazy trying to think of the artist. Yer a legend!
Pete.
Great site! Thanks for putting it together. Enjoyed reliving my ‘glory’ years. I’ll be coming back for more.
wonderful site/links.
makes me feel old and wish i had gone to more raves.
one problem – the zip files are passworded – now is it because i am not looking in the right place or am i just old and senile?
Hi
You are probably old and senile like the rest of us…..but Which specific files are you trying to download….and I will take a look at them….most are not zipped at all..
Cheers
Balearic – is like trying to define the undefinable , confused ? Many dj’s are defined by playing a particular style , Balearic music is a kaleidoscope of different genres and the Balearic DJ plays to a crowd of many nationalities from walks of life.
Jon Sa Trinxa
thanks for your contribution Jon …..personally I don’t like the term “Balearic” unless it is describing a group of Islands in the Med somewhere of the Spanish coastline in a geographical context….. But I know my posts are riddled with the term that sums up a freestyle form of musical selection …..that touches the soul and hearts of many ……..may peace and music happily guide us through life
Thanks for this website Tim. I got into the House Music scene after suddenly moving to Toronto (Canada) to do a CompSci internship, moving from campus in London, Ontario. Boy, I am so thankful for the move. I wouldv’e never found out about banging underground clubs like Turbo, The ComfortZone, Life, System Sound Bar, NV, The Guvernment, as well as big EDM events.
I truly am inspired by EDM — espeically House. It has had such a profound effect on my life and its outlook. I love going to big & small clubs, massive events with big headliners…all for the VIBE. I hope to eventually start spinning with the name “DJ Sinister to the Max” where I’ll be focusing on Dark Tribal/Progressive beats moving into some Funky House, Tribal Techno, Tech Trance and beats with nice sexy mellow vocals. I can’t wait. This will be purely out of PASSION…not for money, chicks etc. Just for the love of being around EDM beats.
THANKS a million for this site. Now I can experience the beats from before I got into the scene.
Cheers!
BTW, I predict that soon there’ll be a big demand for EDM events tailored to the over 30 crowd. Why should they give up going out and having a great time (once in a while) and listening to great beats?? Just like we have high school reunions, I see potential in having EDM events specifically marketed at over 30 peeps — like us.
Music is timeless.
thanks for the comments Maxwell….well thankfully in the UK there are already many nights that cater for the people who experienced it first time around…and for those getting into it to experience the original vibe, there has been many “old skool” house nights across our little Country for quite a few years now, and always draws a slightly older crowd…. I have noticed in certain parts of the UK, and especially Brighton where I live, that there is a big precence of adults who have not grown up and still love clubbing and keeping young, I believe that is the postive fall out of the Acid House generation.
All the best with your internship….and spread the love of music to all you can..
By the way the Sleazy Beats mix by Eddie C, well he is a Canadian DJ/Producer …
A great resource and passion, thanks Peter.
I’d just say that some of the downloads are a little bit lacking in quality, even if 320 etc. Do you rip from vinyl usually? Maybe a good analogue to dig converter would improve things.
Thanks for the feedback Ian ………. depends on the files…. not all of these are my rips so I have no control over the quality of others rips ……. The ones I rip are through an M-Audio Sound card and either a Technics Turntable with ortofon needle…or a Goldring Turntable and elktra cart and needle….so not much wrong with my set up ……..Some of the vinyl back in the day was pressed or mastered pretty poorly…especially hardcore music……Anyway above all that, the music shared on the site is just to put people back in touch with the music….and then they can go and source the vinyl and have it in original quality.
