Retrospective – The Early Progressive Years

It has been a long time since I have posted anything relating to the early progressive house tracks that emerged in 1991 and continued onwards, championed by some bloke up North called Sasha, and quite a few people in the South in that big over sprawling mess called London. A decent chap called Colin Gee has put together a three retrospective mixes of the big and not so big prog hitters that were being played in these early days, when producers who wore motorcycle boots and grew their hair long, made drum beats by stretching the skin of roadkill over a used baked bean tin, while blowing an abandoned trumpet, standing one footed top of a hill, recording it all in their portable DAT recorder, the results where a lot better than you’ll have imagined.

Brilliant selection of classic tracks – cheers to Mr. Colin Gee. And thanks for the amusing and probably dead on description of the production process!

Thanks for the feedback, its very appreciated. If anyone was interested, there is a part 4 and 5 of these mixes. It was always meant to be 5 after I couldn’t narrow my favourites down any lower than about 80 tracks, but I just took ages getting round to the other 2. They are available on a mixes website for listen or download, I’ve struggled with Mediafire over the last year. Help yourself, hope you enjoy:

Seriously fantastic work – thanks. I’ve downloaded all 5 of your progressive house mixes and they are permanent fixtures on my iPhone/lap top! The tunes cover what, for me, was the apex period for house music. Either that or I’m an overly nostalgic 40 something lamenting the passing of my youth!
