Recommended: Grace Jones – Hurricane Dub
I picked this album up about a month ago as a bit of a punt to be fair as I have a bit of a love hate relationship with GJ’s music. Take for example Private Life, She’s Lost Control and Warm Leatherette (ok The Normals version is arguably better) and I even have a soft spot for “Pull up to the bumper”. Then you have other extreme, like the so called Balearic (cough) classic La Vie en Rose, which to me sounds like wedding music. What drew me to this release was simply the word “dub”, and what you get is just that, delicious dubbed out versions produced by Ivor Guest of Grace Jones latest album Hurricane. I was already familiar with the track “Williams Blood” due to Yam Who’s dub a couple of years back, so the other tracks were unfamiliar territory to explore. The vinyl release is a double lp on a heavy weight pressing, with the added bonus of getting a free download code for the the dub version of the album and the normal release, worth paying the couple of quid extra for.
