Book Review – Everything you need to know about DJ’ing and Success
I’ll be honest I have never read a “How to be a DJ” book in my life and I really had no plans to until recently when Danny Ramplings “Everything you need to know about DJ’ing and Success” arrived on my door step. I had figured once you had learnt to beat mix and learnt a few tricks, then what else did you really need to know, how wrong was I. Danny’s book covers every current topic imaginable for DJ’ing, and good solid advise for those wishing to make the move out of the bedroom DJ circuit, and provides essential information and guidance on steps you can take to achieve your goals.
The book provides clear easy to understand content with regards to the technical side of DJ’ing (equipment set up, beat matching scratching), a good section on marketing and promoting, and an extensive resource section including track lists from the worlds leading DJ’s covering most genres. But what really stands this book apart the crowd is the section on life skills that can help you achieve success, not only in DJ’ing but these techniques can be applied for all areas of ones life. It draws on modern day psychology techniques, mainly from NLP and CBT, that when you regularly apply to your daily life can bring positive changes and opportunities. I have personally used many of these methods previous to reading this book and have experienced life changing results from them. Combing self help and dj’ing in one tidy book must have librarians and stockist torn between what shelf the put the book on.
Oh there is also a 4hr DVD included, I have not watched this yet so cannot comment on its content, but it includes interviews and footage with top jocks, and I am sure it will be top quality just like the book.
Value for money? Decent quality hard back book, superb content, a reference book, a 4hr DVD, potentially life changing content…all for £20 …it is bargain… even more of a bargain on Amazon at £10.80 at the moment.
